American Heart Association 3 Day Diet
Need to lose weight fast?
The American Heart Association 3 day diet is designed for people who need to lose weight fast. The diet program claims to reduce your weight by up 10 pounds within 3 days. But not only fat loss belongs to its benefits, it is also supposed to have a cleansing effect.
This diet does not cure your heart!
However, the name “American Heart Association 3 Day Diet” is rather misleading, as said organisation has nothing to do with it, nor is this program designed for people who have heath trouble concerning their heart. This 3 day diet has been around for some time and comes in various names.
A low calories diet
Essentially, it is a very low calorie diet limiting the daily calorie intake to around 1,000 to 1,200 calories, which might be the main reason for the weight loss. As with these restricted calories only 3 meals are permitted, the metabolism is supposed to get a boost from the foods or food combinations that are consumed.
All in all, despite of the healthy name, the American Heart Association 3 Day Diet, is just on of many quick weight loss schemes, which does not teach the dieter any healthy eating habits. Because it is only meant for 3 days it is fairly easy to get through this diet, but also the weight loss achieved is less likely to be permanent and a reduction of 10 pounds within 3 days seems rather drastic and not necessarily healthy.
Alternative crash diet recipe
In general, you do not need a special crash diet program like the American Heart Association 3 Day Diet, simply reduce your calorie intake considerably for 3 days focusing on a good protein source and many vegetables. Combine this with some exercise and consider the first pounds lost!
Keep in mind that if you reduce your calorie intake drastically, you can only do this for a few days as otherwise you will send your body into starvation mode making it hard to continue losing weight.
A good jump start of long term weight reduction program
Nevertheless, the American Heart Association 3 Day Diet may be a good jump start for a longer term diet and the initial weight loss due to this crash diet will give you the motivation to continue with eating less or at least moderate portion sizes.
Small changes done consistently lead to permanent weight loss!
Sometimes all you need to do for continuously loosing weight are some small changes in your eating habits. A calorie reduction of 250 to 500 calories per day is a good pace to go.
As most people do not have an idea how many calories they can eat at their maintenance level minus those 250 to 500 calories, it would be a good idea to start having that calculated using an online BMR calculator and then choosing a diet plan according to your result. You might be surprised how many calories you can eat and still lose weight!

Interesting article. The AHA 3 day diet is no substitute for a long term healthy eating regime. There are no quick fixes to weight loss and a change of lifestyle and eating habits are , in the majority of cases, the only answer to a sensible and safe long term eating plan. Most of the weight lost on the 3 day diet will be liquid and this will soon be replaced by the body. 40 years of being married to a dieter does give me an insight!!

i was always conscious about my Diet Calories because i cannot afford to become fat and flabby`;:
Thank you for your blog… This is a motivational tips for those individuals who are interested for diet regimen. This is really useful and helpful to everybody.
After countless attempts to lose weight, I reluctantly started the 3 day weight loss plan, dubbed “The American Heart Association” 3 day diet. I had hovered at the 300 pound mark for about 3 years. Being only 5’6″, you can imagine how I must have looked.
However, after the first week, I had lost 5 pounds. I was a little disappointed at it not being closer to the 10 pounds they say you could lose, but, I decided I would stick it out for a month, just to see what happened. The second week I lost seven pounds, but had gained 2 of them back by the time I started the 3rd week. However,at the beginning of the 3rd week, I had lost an inch in my waistline, but nothing in my stomach, yet, at the end of the 3rd week, I had lost another 7 pounds. Tomorrow, the 15th of June will be the end of my fourth week and I can say that I will probably weigh right at 275 pounds, a total loss of 25 pounds in a month’s time. I have noticed that I am getting more of my energy back and have lost 2 inches in the waist line. Still not losing anything in my stomach, but I know it will take time. simply put, I don’t like the diet, but it is working for me. Even on the 4 days off of the diet, I find I am not as hungry as I used to be and am making better choices at what I do eat. I am committed to giving this diet a chance to work and will stay on it until I see my family doctor in 2 more months. I will have blood work done at the end of July and will get to see the results on the 16th of August. If this diet doesn’t kill me by then, I suspect I should be around 250# for a total loss of 50#. I have not been that light in over 5 years. So far, I am giving this diet an E for excellent. at least it has done good for me and I know not everyone will have the same success, but as for me, I am very happy!
Congrats! I would say the E for excellent is not for the diet but for you sticking to it, feeling less hungry and making better food choices!
Just Following up:
I have been on the 3 day diet now for 2 solid months and have lost from 305 to 265. I have also lost 3 inches in the waist and 2″ of belly. It isn’t getting any easier, in fact, it seems as if I am only losing about 2 pounds a week now, but I am losing, so, onward I shall go. To be honest, I hate tuna now more than ever and I really am getting to dislike cottage cheese, but I am really pleased with the results over all. My long term goal was to get to 195 by the years end. We’ll see.
Thanks Calvin for the follow up!
You have already done such an awesome job in losing so much weight! That the speed of weight loss would go down was to expected, and I can understand about the tuna, but you are really doing well and I cross my fingers that you will reach your goal! However, from own experience I can tell you that in the end, looking back, it does not matter how long it took, so keep on going, go, go, go!
