Calorie Deficit Calculator: How Many Calories Should I Cut to Lose Weight?
How Many Calories Should I Cut to Lose Weight?
So, you have decided to lose weight and now you are wondering “How many calories should I cut to lose weight?”.
Actually, have arrived at the right question! Most people start asking “How many calories should I eat to lose weight?”, this is also a valid question but the answer doesn’t serve you if you are not prepared to count calories. And that is a time-consuming task if you do not use a calorie counter.
Planning your diet
Planning your diet by finding out how many calories you should cut is a bit easier as you now only need to count those calories that you do not eat any more. And when you start eliminating your worst food choices you might be surprised that you only need to cut out a few things to start losing weight.
Use the calorie deficit calculator
The below calorie deficit calculator makes it easy to set up a plan:
-
decide how many pounds you want to lose
-
decide about a time frame
-
the calorie deficit calculator will calculate how many calories you should cut daily to achieve your goal
Adjust the time frame if it looks too hard to do
If that looks too harsh or impossible to do, just give yourself a bit more time. The good thing about planning your diet a bit more long term is, that you get used to your new eating behavior which means that you are less likely to experience a Jo-Jo effect after reaching your goal weight. Slow and steady wins the game!

Wow, that’s a really nifty tool. Dieting can be so hard and sometimes just annoying–like counting calories. But a little calculator like this is just awesome. Thanks so much.

i always make sure that i am on a Low Calorie diet. i avoid foods with high carbohydrate load because it would just cause more fats on the body. a low calorie diet is also associated with longer life span.
we should learn about nutrient density. While we want our foods to taste good, the amount of nutrition they offer is more important.

I always monitor my Calories when i eat. I make sure that i dont eat foods that are very high in carbohydrates or foods with very high calories.
this thing is a total fraud! if you eat 1800 calories per day, if you cut out 600, you can lose 10 pounds in 3 days as long as you eat low carbs and don’t cheat!

Yes, you do lose weight much quicker when cutting out the carbohydrates as much as possible, although 10 pounds in 3 days seems very unlikely unless maybe you are heavily obese. However, you have to consider that this weight loss does not equal fat loss! As you get the sugar out of your body, you also will get rid of water that was needed to balance the sugar in your body.
So Atkins diet, for example, is an effective way to lose weight quickly, it is even healthy and improving your cholesterol etc. as long as you do not overdo the protein (bad for the kidneys).
Only trouble is that most people are not able to stay away from carbohydrates for long, so it is very hard to turn into a habit for long term weight loss and maintaining the lower weight.
In conclusion, if you start your weight loss with Atkins/low carb or do a low carb phase within for 1-2 weeks that will boost your weight loss and your motivation, so go for it. For long term you might then reintroduce the low GI carbs (beans, sweet potato, whole wheat pasta etc.).
Alternatively, try to half the portion size of carbs you are eating and replace with fruit and vegetables, this will not only cut carbs but also cut calories!
