“How Many Calories to Lose Weight Calculator”

How does the “How many calories to lose weight calculator” work?

When you want to go on diet, it is often a good idea to start with assessing your current situation. To get a clue how many calories are needed each day to lose weight, you first need to know, how many calories your body needs to maintain your current weight. Often people then search the internet for a “how many calories to lose weight calculator” :-) , here it is! (Well, actually it may take a few seconds to load)

You can get the amount of calories you need for maintenance from the above “How many calories to lose weight calculator”, where your basal metabolic rate (BMR) gets calculated from the data you put in. The BMR is then multiplied by your activity level.

To lose weight you obviously need to eat less calories per day than you burn.

How much less?

Well, eat just a little bit less and you will lose weight slowly, eat a lot less and you will lose weight fast!

It’s your choice!

How to rate your activity level:

sedentary = almost no exercise

lightly active = light exercise; sports 1-3 days/week

moderately active = moderate exercise ; sports 3-5 days/week

very active = hard exercise; sports 6-7 days a week

highly active = excessive exercise; sports & physical work

Guideline for your calorie deficit:

Eat 500 calories less than you need for maintenance, and you will lose about 1 pound per week!

That happens actually to many people! How do you know if you are really only having around 1,500 calories? If you are you guessing or estimating that, then be aware, because studies show that people underestimate their calorie intake by up to 50%!
If you are tracking your calorie intake accurately and you should lose weight, but you don’t, then my report “Top 10 Reasons Why You Can’t Lose Weight – And How You Can” might give you some insights.

I speed walk 3 km OR Bike ride around 8km I do this 6 days a week. I also lift weights every other day. How would you rate that for activity level? I am at a total stand still for weight loss. I’m pretty sure I’m not eating enough. thanks.

  • I am surprised that I am suppose to eat that many calories a day. I am suppose to eat 2772 calories a day. I don’t even know if I come close to eating that a day.

I have to do 2,772 calories and my husband needs 2,332. If I am eating less than my calorie amount will it be easier for me to lose weight. If not can someone tell me the best way to lose weight easier. Thanks!

Um, you should be able to put height under 5 feet! im 21 and im short 4’10. you should change that.

  • Claudia

Sorry, Amber, I didn’t program that widget myself. Hope it did give you at least an indication when using 5 feet instead of 4’10′

Would riding a stationary bike pretty hard for an hour daily and then immediately hopping on the treadmill & walking 2-3 miles at 4.0-4.2mph qualify me as \"hard exercise 6-7x a week\"? The cardio sessions are at least 90 minutes long.

  • I encourage those who struggle with losing weight to set realistic goals and be consistent. Take it one day at a time!!!

  • Thanks for the calculator. I agree, weight loss is basically eating less calories than you burn.
