How often can I weight myself?
Simple question, simple answer: as often as you like!
I know, one commonly says rather start with your diet, wait at least a week or even a month (as suggested by Oprah’s advisors) and then the scale will tell you what you wanted: you have lost weight. If you’ve been good.
I personally can’t wait. I am a numbers person. Once I have decided I need to lose weight and have really started a serious attempt and cut down on sweets and snacks, I want to see the result.
Celebrate your success!
Preferably next day on the scale, but ok, it’s not that fast. And I am aware of that. I also know that my weight can go a bit up and down. But the magic is, once the scale has shown me the lower number, I celebrate on the one side (no, not with chocolate cake, just a big YES! YES! YES!) and I’ll be extra careful not to go back to the old weight.
I will in my mind even start tackling the next lower number! For me is stepping on the scale each morning definitely a part of my motivation to stay on diet and to successfully reach my goal weight.
With that said, it does not mean, that my weight is always only going down. But it generally only tells me that it may take 1 or 2 days longer to permanently go down. And that’s exciting, isn’t it?
The scale puts you into control
Once you put your diet on autopilot and there is no willpower and effort involved any more, you can relax and patiently wait to see your weight going down. You then might not NEED to weigh yourself every day any more, because you KNOW, your weight IS going down!
However, be aware not to let it slip. First you start not monitoring your weight any more so often, then it’s a sweet here and there. After a few weeks you might not be looking forward to step onto the scale, because you fear an indulgence here and there has taken it’s toll.
Instead make it a habit to weigh yourself once a day at the same time of the day (or at least once a week) and preferably even record/ chart your weight. That way you are in control and small corrections can immediately bring you back on track!
