Weight Loss New Year’s Resolution

Happy New Year 2011 to all of you!

Another year gone by, another year ahead! Time for New Year’s Resolutions, and often our plans are to get fitter, leaner, healthier etc.  -  and they are forgotten about so soon. But that is no reason to not at least try to realize at least some of these dreams. And as long as you don’t do anything about it, they just that – dreams!

And still, even if we get started, most of us won’t make it through the first week. What can we do to succeed this time? Steven Pierce reminded me of the the sequence be – do – have, and there is some truth in that, we often neglect part of that.

Have – yes, we do know what we want: a slim, healthy, sexy body, or well at least a few pounds lighter, getting the Christmas fat off.

Do – as confusing as all the different diet schemes might be, we do know the basics how to get there: eating less and preferably healthier and exercising more, and yes, unfortunately longer that just the two to three days that we have the energy to force us to a new, more restrictive lifestyle.

Be – this part mostly gets forgotten about.  To really follow through with our new resolutions, we need to be that person that is slim and fit! Then taking the right action would be easy. But then, that also seems to be a even more difficult point. How can you “be” slim when you feel fat after the Christmas weight gain? How can you shift your identity to be the person that is more in tune with all the things that you need to “do” to get that slim body?

According to Steven Piece, it is a good start to write out “I am …” statements. Your identity is most importantly influenced by how you view yourself. At the moment you might maybe rather see yourself as “I am a cookie lover” or “I am a couch potato”. So to be the person that does all the things to have a slim body, you would rather need to see yourself as “I am a vegetable lover” or “I am a runner”.

If this now sounds too far fetched, be reminded that this can be anything that is congruent with the actions of a slim person, you could also be a “low carb freak” or a “swimming talent” or “kettle bell trainee” or all of that!

To turn your life and your weight around in 2011, make up your mind what you want to be this year. What could your be? Make a list and read it out loud as often as you can!

But there is also more practical advice, see part II for how to ensure to keep your actions on track.

Resolutions mostly about weight. You want to loss it fast and for the usual reasons.
With weight loss 95 percent will fail and 5% will lose it and maintain the lose at different levels.
Thus weight goes back on and the book, video, and special food industry makes billions of dollars. The 5% is a fact.
To be part of this 5% maintain group. Hopefully. You learned from the past attempts, there is No, magic material out there or food to end this madness of being unhealthy and obese. You know all the secrets on losing , what triggers are out there that will send the scales back up .
For most of us we blame something or someone, or say some excuse for being obese again. That is part of the 95% failure group.
The puck stops, at you. A change that is huge, beyond just the weight. It is everything to do with your life to learn to change it, or modify it.
It is worth it , keep records , be accountable to your self , get support .
The Change is between your ears. The weight came on slowly so will it go. As you learn from the past , change is at steps to a better you.
Yes , my resolution is to stay in the 5% group. I am two months in maintaining, after losing 100 lbs. I am in my late 50\’s, Like I said before, you have the answers the challenge continues . This year , will you finally change history or repeat it.
The answer is waiting at the end of the year.

That’s true, like with everything else in life, there is no magic bullet fro weight loss. AND the solution is actually simple: eat less, exercise more and stick with it! Just do it!
